Manny Bahia of Vancity Buzz

Last week, we took a look at Paul Davidescu from Tangoo, who also works closely with Vancity Buzz. This week, we turn to one of the co-founders of Vancity Buzz, Manny Bahia, to learn what they’re all about.

Manny Bahia of Vancity Buzz

1. Tell us a little about yourself and what you do.

Hello, I’m Manny Bahia and I am the co-founder of Vancity Buzz. My responsibilities include backend and business development. I am also a Realtor and involved in several startups.

2. What makes your company different or special?

Vancity Buzz is unique in media in Vancouver because we feel we have the most engaged audience through our website and social media channels. We focus on topics that mainstream media does not necessarily cover and our coverage is instant. Some of our most popular categories include: Events, Fashion, Food, Sports, Real Estate, and Contests.

Our demographic and readership are defined and loyal. Through our channels, readers can access news and info instantly.

3. How did you get started?

Karm and I started in our basement in South Vancouver in July 2008. At the time, there was a lot of negativity in the Vancouver blogosphere. We couldn’t fathom why a world-class city such as Vancouver didn’t have a strong positive voice. That’s when we came in.

There are so many unique and exciting stories and things to do in Vancouver. There was a need for this to be relayed to the masses. We stayed persistent with our content and are reaching a bigger audience each day.

4. What are you currently working on?

On our content side, we have been fortunate to have 50+ writers on board. We are looking to expand that number for more Vancouver articles and coverage.

Our technical and business side is looking at ways to better deliver content and to offer diverse advertising opportunities.

5. What made you decide to cowork at The Network Hub?

Working at The Network Hub is one of the best decisions we have ever made. We are a mobile company and we do not necessarily need a desk. However, we do need a whiteboard and boardroom, social spaces, and the plethora of networking opportunities the Hub offers. It’s central, convenient, and has like-minded individuals working on great projects.

6. Any advice you have for other entrepreneurs and small business owners?

Stay persistent and be patient. You may be eating macaroni for one year, two years… or seven years. Stick with it. It will pay off.
