The Vancouver Small Business Meetup primary aim is to provide practical information, tools, and advice for starting, operating and growing your small business. We hand pick well-known speakers who would have charged hundreds to thousands of dollars per seminar to create workshops specifically for our members. Membership is FREE and accessible to any one interested in learning how to start, operate and grow their small business.
So many small-business people are out there “hawking” their wares in a kind of frenzy of activity, desperate to discover as many opportunities as possible to talk about their business in hopes of uncovering prospects and opportunities. The result is a LOT of white noise and insincerity that creates defenses in others and actually limits business-building opportunities from taking root.
Common pitfalls
Workshop will be facilitated by
Christina Sestan from Citrus Coaching Solutions. Christina is an ambitious, energetic and dynamic coach, trainer, speaker and facilitator with almost fifteen years of corporate and consultative experience. You have seen her on "The Daily Show" or on 1410 CFUN as she is a regular guests in the media.

An extra special event for us this month. Ever wondered who was behind the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? blue wig invasions that captured the attention of the world?
I am pleased and very honored to have Tyler Wright of Mega Watt PR for our May event.
In 2002, Tyler Wright was re-hired by 1-800-GOT-JUNK?'s Founder, Brian Scudamore 'to do something.' Tyler's idea to give out 1000 blue wigs at a Canucks playoff game got the company 50 local media hits in 10 days, and Tyler's PR career was solidified.
He went on to help the junk hauler generate hundreds of media hits, including Oprah, CNN, Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal, which helped the company experience hyper-growth. In 2004 Tyler started Megawatt PR and has generated media coverage for companies all over North America. "My biggest customer expectation is that the CEO is willing to try new things and take risks," Tyler says. "A lot of people say they will, but only the brave tend to stand out."
Tyler will be speaking on creating the cool factor within your company, 'The Story Behind the Story', and what companies NEED to do to break away from the pack. You can read about Tyler's recent Make It Business article here.

2/22/08 - Vancouver's Ruby/Rails Meetup
World wide web is an ever growing collection of resources published by the humanity at large. These resources get to be produced and consumed by utilizing the underlying Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA). ROA differs from the garden variety of legacy computing infrastructures by not elaborating on extensible protocols.
The presentation will focus on explaining the working of ROA, as well as on exposing the benefits of adopting this architecture. Following that, we will discuss some perceived drawbacks inherent in ROA, and will conclude the presentation by describing how can Ruby on Rails framework help us build web sites using the principles of ROA.
