Network Hub Members Among Top 10 SBBC Awards Semi-Finalists
Celebrating and recognizing the outstanding achievements of entrepreneurs in our beautiful province every year, the Small Business BC Awards recently announced its top 10 semi-finalists on its website. Among the companies named on this most prestigious list, two are members of The Network Hub at our location in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
At first glance, Coco Cafe may have the appearance of your typical coffee shop offering a great cup of joe to go with delicious soups and pot pies. Look a little further and you’ll discover that Coco Cafe has a very specific mission in mind: to provide meaningful employment for adults with developmental disabilities. It is named in the top 10 in the Best Community Impact category.
Born out of the Cedar Opportunities Co-operative (COCO) in 2007, Coco Cafe officially opened its doors in 2011 to realize this vision and to provide an environment for greater social integration for people with developmental disabilities within their community.
“We are beyond excited and proud to be a semi finalist in the BC Small Business Awards. We could not be more thankful for this opportunity,” said COCO Cafe Manager of Community Engagement Sarah Pachkowsky. “COCO Cafe is coming up on our 5th year in business and we have noticed huge growth in our own business. But also the small businesses growing in Nanaimo. When they grow, we grow. The Network Hub is a great example of growth.”
Launching earlier this year, Roar Representation offers public speaking, networking and corporate presentation services by way of its team of professional communicators. Roar ensures that its clients are being represented effectively at public events, maintaining a high level of professionalism and providing a positive image for client brands.
“We are ecstatic about being a semi-finalist in the Best Concept category. We started only seven months ago and to be recognized so early in our business for having an innovative concept is hugely validating,” said Lea Silver, Public Engagement Specialist at Roar Representation. “Our team is growing and we just moved into the Network Hub from a home office so we can continue to increase capacity and impact; the recognition is the cherry on top of it all.”
Winners will be announced at the Small Business BC Awards Ceremony in Vancouver in February. We at the Network Hub could not be prouder of both Coco Cafe and Roar Representation. We wish them the best of luck.
