Build a Standout Demo Reel at The Digital Event Workshop
Living in the technological age, everything updates at the speed of light. It’s hard to keep up, especially for those who work in technology, internet or computer graphics.
Not to worry. If your resume is getting a bit dusty or you just need some refreshers, The Network Hub will be hosting a workshop called The Digital Event on Thursday, June 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. based on “How to build a standout demo reel that gets you noticed!” It’s the first in a series to help you succeed in CG community.
“One of the things we wanted to do was to support artists because a lot of artists are also entrepreneurs and freelancers themselves who need to keep up to date on the latest technology, the latest skill set,” said Minna Van, founder and community manager of The Network Hub. “So it’s our opportunity to build and support the CG community in Vancouver. It’s aligned with what we’ve been doing all along, which is supporting technology, entrepreneurs, freelancers. But now we have the opportunity to provide the workshops for them. It’s an additional layer of service.”
If you don’t own any of the ridiculously expensive software, like the Houdini program that can cost up to $5,000, they have you covered.
“We’ve built something called the Digital Hub, which takes all the software, builds it and serves it over a browser,” Van said. “If you’re a new grad, you don’t have to buy expensive new hardware and you don’t have to buy expensive new software. We package all of that and we serve that over a browser here at the office… it’s super easy, super fast. We call it studio in the clouds.”
They will be providing the browser service during the workshop in case some of the attendee’s lack the expensive programs.
The workshop aims help students, recent graduates or anyone who works within Vancouver’s CG community keep on top of things. The workshops start at $25 and can range anywhere up to $50. They will be flying international as well as national experts to come instruct the classes.
“Industry changes, software changes, we’re just sort of keeping them up to date. And just to ensure that for any projects that come to Vancouver, Vancouverites are the ones able to pick it up versus studios looking around, not being able to find anybody and bringing in foreigners. Which is not a bad thing, but it’s better to keep the talent here and hire the talent from here.”
Spots are limited to 20 people so attendees get an intimate opportunity to interact with the instructors.
