Shaun Liong of Wireless Experts Ltd

In the last quarter of 2010, smartphones outsold PCs for the first time ever, shipping 100.9 million devices worldwide. It’s clear that smartphones and mobile devices are becoming the essential tool for every business person who wants to have that edge over their competition. This week, we’re profiling one of our coworkers whose company aims to help your business make the best use of mobile technology.

Please tell us who you are and what you do. My name is Shaun Liong. I’m the training director at Wireless Experts Ltd., a boutique training and consulting firm in Vancouver. We offer in-house Smartphone, Tablet, and BlackBerry training workshops to businesses and corporate users.

Companies pay a lot every month for their wireless technology. Are members of your workforce sometimes frustrated by their wireless devices? Are you worried you’re wasting money on your technology investment, or worse, that the technology deployed is actually hurting your team’s productivity?

Give us a call to see if we can help. Our goal is to help companies get the most out of their technology investment and help them save some money.

Tell us something unique about your company.
I think we’re the only technology training firm that guarantees measurable results! Since our focus is to help companies realize the full value of their wireless services, we firmly believe that training should always have a positive ROI. In fact, if the increased productivity & money saved from your cell phone bills does not offset our training fees; we will gladly make up the difference! You can probably tell by the exclamation points how proud we are of this.

What inspired you to get into this line of work?
My background has always been in Telecom and I have worked in a few different facets of the wireless industry. I managed a Technical Repair Center for a few years and was a Training Specialist for Fido Solutions Inc. After that I worked for BlackBerry as a territory rep and national trainer.
Eleven years in this industry has taught me two things about myself:
First, how much of a nerd I am and
Second, how much I genuinely enjoy helping people with technology.

What do you enjoy the most about what you do?
Training is such a constructive and rewarding profession. I think everyone likes to be helpful to some degree. Being a trainer allows me to put myself in the position to make a positive impact in people’s lives. I have always enjoyed facilitating live training sessions and helping participants grow.

Where do you see your industry going in the next 2 years?
I believe the next two years will see Tablet computing making its way past the ‘enthusiast’ or ‘early adopter’ stage and into the professional corporate sector. The general usability (the balance of power, portability and convenience) of these devices is slowly creeping past that of the laptop computer for mobile professionals. Although there will always be a place for laptops, we will definitely see their market share diminishing and the increasing Tablet market share will more than cover that gap.
The wireless industry changes so quickly and digital devices have such a huge impact on our daily lifestyle. The sophistication of personal technologies continues to grow and with that, the need for greater understanding through training.

How has your experience been working at The Network Hub:
The experience at the Network Hub has been fantastic. At first, when shopping for a workspace my only priorities were price, location and a quiet environment. Now that I have been here a few months I am beginning to see that these criteria are insignificant compared to the networking and collaborative opportunities a shared office makes available to you. Being in a room with other entrepreneurs and professionals presents a bank of expertise and perspective that, for someone starting a business is simply invaluable.
